The Story behind the name DIRK LUDWIG

Before I gave birth to my little boy last 2012, I was really having a hard time looking and searching for a perfect name for him. Like any other mom or dad, we want to have that ideal name for our precious one. It took us more than 5 months to finalize the name of our little boy. After all the research we had, we finally decide to name him DIRK LUDWIG.

Why Dirk? Why Ludwig? So here how it goes.

Dirk came from the famous Dallas Mavericks Player (Dirk Nowitzki). Not only my son’s father is an avid basketball fan, he himself is basketball player. He was a varsity player from one known Universities here in Cebu City. Last 2011 (I got pregnant July 2011), Dallas Mavericks was the 2011 NBA Finals Champion and Dirk Nowitzki was awarded as the MVP (Most Valuable Player).

Not only we want to name our son from 1 of the famous Sport Icon, Dirk also has a very meaningful meaning. The name Dirk means 'The ruler of the people.' It is of Germanic and Dutch origin. It is mostly used in Dutch and English. (Source: www.ask.com).  I want my son to set a good example to others.

Ludwig came from the famous musician (composer & pianist), Ludwig van Beethoven. I am a music lover that is why I chose this as the 2nd name of our little man.

How about you mommies and daddies? What is the story behind the names of your babies?

  2. I'm shallow hehe, my daughters' names were from celebrities I liked when I was pregnant, Mariel (Robin Padilla's wife) since she was so pretty then and sweet, and Maris because I liked Mariz (wife of Ronnie Rickets) when I was pregnant :-)

  3. My son is named after Brad Pitt's character in the movie Legends of the Fall, Tristan :) When I first saw the movie back when I was a teen, I said I'd give my kid that name, and I did! :)

  4. I was,in fact, wondering what your son's name means. Thanks for sharing this. It's a great name to give your son. He's blessed.

Many people think we named our son Lukas after the biblical character, and though we do raise them according to biblical principles, that name came to us because of the rocker, Lukas who joined a singing competition years ago. hehe. :)

  5. I have 3 kids and their names all start with the letter "Z". I chose that letter because I didn't want a very common name and thought that there are very few Z names that are common. Anyway, my kids' names are Zoe, Ziya and Zeth (whose nickname is Ziggy). I got "Zoe" from a Sweet Dreams novel I read when I was a teenager. It means "Life". Ziya means "Light" while Zeth means "Appointed/Investigator". We actually wanted our boy's first name to be Ziggy (from the reggae artist Ziggy Marley) but thought it wasn't formal enough for a first name so we made it into a nickname instead. :)

  8. I wondered abou the Dirk Ludwig name actually when I saw your blog :) My boy's name is Adrian Vincent. In school, he tells people his name means dark conqueror! You know how we think we named our child in a way that no other child will have the same name as his? When Adrian got admitted for dengue fever last June, the resident who attended to him at the ER said his name was Adrian also. I went, oh but I bet you have a different second name. Turned out his name is also adrian vincent.

  9. We named our first born Kelly Alexa. I loved the name "Kelly" ever since forever so when we had a girl, I knew I had to name her that. "Alexa," on the other hand, means 'leader' or 'brave' - which my daughter is. :)

Our second child's name is more meaningful for us, though. We named him Ethan Caleb, which means 'strong faith.' That's because we almost lost him in my womb TWICE! My first OB even recommended that they remove him na. And, if we continue, there might be brain damage. But we didn't say yes right away. Instead, we looked for the OB who helped me give birth to our first. She just gave me meds, put me on bed rest... and now our boy, who the first doctor said is a hopeless case, is a year old. Very happy, very healthy! :)

His name will forever remind us of our faith in God; all the prayers we said and were answered.
